1)  Q Why Join the Parents as Teachers program?
A
  • Learn how your child grows and develops.
  • Share your experiences and receive support from other families who have a child the same age as yours.
  • Give your child the best possible start in life.
2)  Q What services does the program provide?
A
  • Personalized home visits with a certified parent educator.
  • Parent meetings with other parents to share and learn more about parenting experiences.
  • Meeting formats include both guest speakers and parent-child interaction activities.
  • Screenings to check development, hearing, and vision.
  • Referrals to other services beyond the scope of the program.
3)  Q Who are the Parent Educators?
A
  • Trained professionals who have experience working with young children and families.
  • Parent educators receive specialized training in child development. Yearly training hours are required to maintain their certification.
  • Parents decide if they will act on the information offered by the parent educator.
4)  Q Who participates in the program?
A
  • All families are eligible to participate throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten, usually age five.
  • Participation in the program is voluntary.
